The 4th High Vocational School of Athens “enters” into space orbit
On Thursday 22 June, in the courtyard of the 4th High Vocational School of Athens, in the school premises of our association, the event “The 4th EPAL of Athens “enters” into space orbit” took place in the context of the school’s participation in the MNAE program of the NOESIS organization.
It was a unique educational experience, where the children presented the 2 microsatellites “SchoolSat 1 Krimigis” (SS1K) and “SchoolSat 2 Simopoulos” (SS2S), a construction inspired by the distinguished space scientists to whom they owe their names. Dr. Stamatis Krimigis attended the event himself to honour this initiative.
The students presented to the public the cubesat 1U SS1K microsatellite, which aims to “map” the Earth’s gravitational and magnetic field.
The students who are part of the Project Team of this sub-action constructed through 3D printing parts of the microsatellite structure, assembled the structural and electronic elements of the structure and programmed the microsatellite to perform a series of measurements.
The purpose of this action was to give students a first contact with space and modern technological applications and the rapidly evolving space industry and to develop their construction and programming skills.
Dr. Krimigis spoke about space science and its evolution from its beginnings until today. He gave educational messages about the value of dedication and effort. It was an extremely enriching experience for both the children and the teachers, very close to their interests and concerns.
Afterwards, the children presented the microsatellite to Dr. Krimizis and their experience in the process of its construction and he was delighted with their effort.
It was an exciting experience for all those present, with excellent organization by the Director of the 4th High Vocational School of Athens, Mr.Karagiannis and his teaching staff. Our association, proud of the actions of the 4th High Vocational School of Athens, supported this event through the presence of the President of the Board of Directors, Mr. Stephanidis.
